‘I wanted her to have more than we’ve had’

Receiving a place in the First Foundation programme is a big moment for each scholar – and for their whole whānau as well.

The youngest of four children, Year 13 student Ariana Paul will be the first in her family to go to university. When Ariana was recently awarded her scholarship, her mum Christine says she was blown away.

“Education is so important and it just opens the doors for a life. I wanted her to have more than what we’ve had, and going to university gives her that opportunity.”
