Overcoming fear of the corporate world

Moving into the professional world is a big step for any young person, particularly for those with fewer role models who work in that environment. But through meaningful work experience while they study, our talented scholars can gain confidence in a professional work setting.

That’s what happened for scholar Isabella Van Stipriaan-Huik, who has enjoyed her corporate communications internship at Spark.

“For young people, a common perception of the corporate world is that it’s scary,” she says. “It’s intimidating and it’s certainly not a place where you can afford to make mistakes. But after three months of interning at Spark, it’s clear that it doesn’t have to be that way. And in fact, it isn’t that way.

“There is plenty of room to be curious, receive feedback and be supported through the challenges that come with stepping out of your comfort zone and into a new environment.”
