Maurica is a remarkable young woman who is an outstanding
example of someone who has overcome huge personal tragedy in her
life to achieve her goals. The Dean of Tamaki College said of her:
"she is a hard working conscientious student, who is presently the
top student in most of her classes. She has a strong sense of
compassion for others and a strong resolve to succeed." Despite
losing her mother in 2004, Maurica repeatedly succeeded at NCEA and
in Sports and Performing Arts.
When awarding Maurica a First Foundation Scholarship, Auckland City
Mission's Prue Scott spoke of this student with high regard: "She
has faced more difficulties than most adults and overcome
substantial barriers to become an A student with a compassion and
commitment to helping others. She talks about her achievements with
modesty, yet it is clear that she has a great strength and
intellect that will see her do well."
Studying at The University of Auckland, Maurica worked hard towards
a Bachelor of Commerce, which she graduated from in 2010.
