Karis' effervescent personality, willingness and self-motivation
combine to present her as a standout student. She was top of her
year at school in 2007 and 2008. Throughout high school she
maintained an impressive academic record and completed NCEA levels
1, 2 and 3 with an Excellence endorsement.
As well as her academic studies, Karis involved herself fully in
numerous other aspects of school life with music taking focus.
Being a talented Flautist, Karis won a scholarship to attend the
prestigious Cazadero Music Camp for two weeks in California in
2008. In 2009 she sat her Grade 6 Trinity Guildhall
Examinations.
Donna Marra, from Foodstuffs Auckland noticed "Karis' desire to
accept all opportunities that are presented to her be it the Brain
Bee competition, attending a performing art camp in
California, song writing or being part of the School Robotics
team, she has a ton of get up and go."
This young woman has an enthusiasm for life
(she completed a six month
university exchange to France in 2013) and in
Mid 2015 completed a Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Music
conjoint degree in Psychology and French from the University
of Auckland.
Karis is currently working part-time as a Home Support Worker for
IDEA Services, supporting four young people with disabilities and
challenging behaviour. She is also running a Music Therapy
Programme called High Notes at the Onehunga Community Centre and
volunteering for Starjam - A performing arts association for young
people with disability as well as volunteering as a helpline
counsellor at Youthline.
Karis hopes to continue with post graduate studies in 2016.
