This outstanding young woman is astoundingly clear and focused
about her future. Her articulations, both in written form and when
she speaks about her dreams and ambitions. Julie aspired to study
law at the Victoria University of Wellington and Journalism through
a postgraduate internship. Above all Julie aspires to make a
difference by helping others.
Even at this young age, volunteering is important to Julie and she
spends time serving at the Home of Compassion's Soup Kitchen in
Wellington and the community-based group called People's Power
Ohariu. Julie also gave her time as a leader at the school's
science homework club and peer mentoring group after school.
Julie knows how to work hard to achieve her goals and she admits
that she is very pleased with her Excellence endorsement for NCEA
Level 1. Extra to her academic commitments, being a master of
words, Julie has been on her school's Premier A team for Debating
year after year. In 2012 Julie was part of team who won the
O'Shea Shield debate in the Wellington region. In addition, she is
an Irish dancer, Vice Captain of the St Catherine's College Rugby
League team and an avid player in the Premier Rugby team.
At University, Julie will working towards gaining conjoint
degrees in Law and Arts. She states that she wants to "work
in any capacity I can to alleviate the problem of poverty in New
Zealand." She intends to complete her degrees in 2018, and
continues to volunteer at Community Law and The Soup Kitchen and
works part itme at a central law firm.
