Joshua's Yr 12 Dean regarded him as a dedicated young scholar
and sportsman with great leadership skills and an honesty that
underlies his ambitious nature. Throughout his schooling Joshua
showed all round talent and was involved in many sporting, musical
and dance activities. He played premier Basketball, Table Tennis,
Water Polo and Dragon Boating and won awards at school and at
national level for Swimming. While at school, Joshua worked hard
towards his future goal of achieving a place at Victoria University
to study Accounting.
Emanuel Kalafatelis of Research New Zealand said that they were
impressed with Joshua. "He carries the hallmarks of an astute and
conscientious young man," said Emanuel. Reflecting on his First
Foundation experience Joshua remarks that working with Research New
Zealand was an all round valuable experience.
Joshua counts finishing a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration
at Victoria University with three Majors as a highlight since
completing his First Foundation programme. He graduated in 2010 and
in 2011 he embarked on a Professional Diploma in
Accounting. Having worked for a while with NZ Post,
in 2012 Joshua transitioned to
working for Tertiary Education Commission in Maori
Strategy. Joshua is currently working as a Business Support
Specialist for Xero.
Joshua is also a keen athlete and spent his years at University
training for multi-sport and in 2015 became the North Island 25-19
age group Triathlon Champion. This means he has qualified for the
Triathlon New Zealand team and will be competing at the ITU
Triathlon World Championship in Chicago on 20 September.
