At the time that James was awarded a First Foundation
Scholarship, his Principal described him as "a highly personable
young man; his discipline and self-motivation are exemplary,
resulting in a creditable array of results from a dedicated and
determined student." James' passion for music was evident at
school and continued on into tertiary studies.
James studied a Bachelor of Music and a Postgraduate Diploma in
Music at The University of Auckland. He graduated from both
qualifications in 2010. James worked as a Sound Engineer and
Production Assistant for Auckland-based Advertising Agency 99 where
he worked with clients such as New World, Air NZ and Farmers. In
addition to full time work, James continued to develop his work as
an independent Sound Artist through collaborative sound and
movement projects. Projects included The Live Series, Exposure
Research Competition (UoA), Beijing Modern Music Festival and the
2010 International Film Festival.
James was our first Alumni to step up as a First Foundation Mentor
in 2011
In mid-2013 James moved to London and is currently working as a
sound designer.
