Despite missing four years of New Zealand schooling and English
being her second language, Gayathri, a refugee from Sri Lanka,
achieved Merit endorsement at NCEA Level 1.
She enjoys badminton and various activities at school, and has
developed confident social and oratory skills which she uses
when invited to speak about refugee experiences.
Her Scholarship Partner, Fonterra Co-operative said at the Awards
Ceremony, "Gayathri displayed a positive, open attitude
having faced considerable obstacles and she has overcome these with
a great display of resilience".
Gayathri wants to become a criminal and human rights lawyer and
"give back to refugee communities globally".
