Soana Pamaka, the Principal of Tamaki College speaks in support of Alvina Pau'uvale's First Foundation application: 'Alvina has been a student at Tamaki College since 2007 and during that time we have seen her star ascend and shine. She is a respectful student who readily takes advantage of the opportunities presented to her.' In 2009, Alvina achieved NCEA Level 1 with a Merit endorsement. Alvina was first in Year 11 Mathematics, Economics, Health, and English and received a Certificate of Merit for Science.

Alvina held a number of leadership positions at school, including Head Librarian of Tamaki College and Tongan Prefect. She also managed chess tournaments and was the CEO for her SELL Programme team. Furthermore, Alvina attended the YWCA Future Leaders Workshop and spent time as a Mathematics and Reading mentor to Year 9 students.

Alvina's a flare for science saw her take part in the Liggins Institute Science program in 2008. For her efforts, she was awarded the Earth and Beyond category award and the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research Gold Internship Award. "We chose Alvina as she stood out at interview with her can-do attitude, her positive demeanour and her exemplary educational background. We were very impressed with her achievements, particularly by her accomplishment in her Liggins scientific research project. We look forward to welcoming her to Siemens," stated Paul Ravlich, CEO, Siemens.

In 2012 Alvina started study at The University of Auckland and graduated at the end of 2015 with a Bachelors of Science (in Biological Sciences and Environmental Science) and is the first in her family to graduate from University. 
She is currently doing herPost Graduate Diploma in Public Health whilst still working with LENScince (a research group within the Liggins Institute).
Alvina eventually wants to move back to Tonga and spend a year teaching because she wishes to give back to the Pacific Community.
