Leata Mafuao

FirstAlumni Foundation

"We were impressed with Leata's quiet confidence; her desire to progress as far as she can with her education," said Tracey Kay, ION's Human Resources Advisor upon awarding Leata a First Foundation scholarship. Leata has always expressed her desire to give out to others and while still at school, Leata determined to go on to study in the area of Medicine.

In 2010 she graduated from The University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Nursing and subsequently with a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences in 2011.

Leata is now studying towards a Masters in Advanced Nursing. Having previously worked in Cardiology and Pathology at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, she is now enjoying the challenges and fast pace of the Emergency Short Stay ward. Leata's dedication to her studies has seen her profiled by The University of Auckland as a high achieving Pacific Island student.
